CINNAMON HEAVEN- YUM! — We Cried!!

Blog 1 cerealCruising the rather new and very special isle of our favorite grocery, we came upon a number of things that we’d never seen before including some products that looked to be a very wonderful find. We like an occasional bowl of healthy cereal and know that real cinnamon is good for us, so didn’t get beyond all the wonderful words on the front, back- the side with pictures that said Oats, Rice, Millet, Quinoa, Amaranth- yes, this company was giving us a healthy product indeed- so we took it home!

I could hardly wait to taste it– and found it to be very delicious! Then for some reason I got curious– the little brown sign on the bottom corner said: Keeping It Real! Blog 1 81lGiOWThey gave 3 key points– sounded really wonderful!   Okay, they haven’t put anything bad it it, so I wonder which healthy sweetener and oil they used– then on one side in such tiny print it required a nice strong pair of readers to read it, I found the truth. FB 3 51yCV1f7-8L                    They not only put sugar in it, they also put in  invert cane sugar which is very much like high fructose corn syrup- certainly an artificial ingredient. Instead of a healthy and natural oil, they used canola! Yipes!! Never mind the calcium and preservatives, we won’t be getting any more of this!  Would it be mean of me to offer it to our birds?

THE LESSON FOR TODAY, DEAR READERS, IS TAKE A MAGNIFYING GLASS IF YOU MUST, BUT DO READ THE INGREDIENTS LIST OF EVEN THOSE NEW PRODUCTS YOU BELIEVE WILL BE JUST FINE, BEFORE YOU BUY.

NOW– Who will join me in contacting this company to ask if they would be open to replacing the bad ingredients they claim aren’t in this cereal and putting in truly healthful ones?

It would be wonderful to have access to this as a truly healthy product- then I would buy bunches!

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH!

About talknshare

My study of how to achieve and keep good health began when I was 18 and has been my lifelong passion. I have learned much over the years and when my T.O.P.S. group dissolved, I created Talk 'N Share. Life happened and I have not done anything with it until now. Since the beginning of this year I have learned many important things and wish to share with others, who like myself, may find it nearly impossible to lose those last few pounds and maintain the loss already achieved.

Very interesting that despite your in depth look at the product you did not catch the biggest fallacy of all! They claim it is made with real cinnamon but they show a picture of what most people believe are cinnamon sticks, but in fact is actually casia. Real cinnamon sticks have several layers and look more like the multiple leafs in a cigar.

Please educate yourself on the difference: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=newtip&dbid=31 Why? Because the cassia for cinnamon switch has been going on for decades and few people are questioning it. Cinnamon is good for you. It regulates blood sugar. Cassia however has the stronger flavor which comes from the higher oil content. That oil is toxic to your liver if consumed on a regular basis!!!

If you are interested in educating the public on food quality this topic is worth your while to report on,

    Best wishes,

Andy- thank you so much for catching this! You are right and I will check out the link you’ve provided here. I have read enough about cinnamon to know many companies cheat on that too, but I was so caught up with the claims on the box and wanting to have a great gluten-free grain cereal that I didn’t give the cinnamon a thought. Had the oil and sweetener been good, I would have bought it and been happy. I probably wouldn’t re-buy very often, though, because of the preservatives. It’s hard finding a good healthy variety of processed foods, but we keep trying! May life bring you only the best in health, and tasty too!
