7 Foods That Kill Cravings- These May Surprise You!

I have found that when I have a craving for the wrong foods (usually after eating some ‘no-no’s’), I can easily get back on track by having some protein and fat. I can have a protein & fat food or drink, the choice is mine and after a satisfying protein/fat snack, the craving will be gone.

Coach Josh has also found this to be true and wants to share his 7 favorites with you.

Today I want to talk about 7 specific foods that will help you control your cravings.

This is important because, let’s face it, you will NEVER be able to stick to any eating program if cravings are driving you CRAZY. Here are my top food choices:

#1 Avocados

Yup, that’s right, a fatty food. But this fat is a good fat and these are loaded with two vital nutrients that will quickly kill belly fat: fiber and monounsaturated fats. These little suckers keep you full for hours. Jeannie here- good fats will fill you up. You have no doubt heard someone say ‘oh, I just can’t eat any more of that- it’s too rich’. That is because it contained a lot of fat and good fats not only make things taste better, they let you know when you’ve eaten enough and should stop.

#2 Nut Butters

Peanut butter and almond butter are loaded with monounsaturated fats that can stave off hunger and provide valuable nutrition. Just be sure that it’s natural nut butter because the regular grocery store versions are filled with sugar and trans fats. Jeannie here- I agree! Sometimes I have peanut butter on healthy rice cakes (just puffed rice and sea salt). It makes a yummy snack and my craving goes away.

#3 Eggs

Need a quick breakfast solution? Look no further than to eggs. Loaded with protein, vitamin B6, V12, A, D, E, and K, as well as foliate, choline, lutein, calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, you simply cannot go wrong. Choose free range chickens whenever possible and the nutritional benefits will be amplified. Jeannie here- Not just for breakfast! We often have hard boiled eggs in the frig that make a wonderful quick snack and also go well on my favorite salads.

#4 Dark Chocolate

More good news. That chocolate craving that you have, it too can be satisfied. Dark chocolate is actually a powerful source of antioxidants and it contains a natural “fat burner” called theobromine that will increase the rate of fat burning that takes place in the body. Stick to a few squares after a healthy meal to crush those chocolate cravings. Jeannie here- Yep- I LOVE chocolate and have learned that if we shop carefully, we can have healthy chocolate- (yes, there is such a thing). We shop several companies for our chocolate and really like the things CHOC ZERO offers.

#5 Oatmeal

Another great breakfast food you can’t go wrong with. If you want to cure the mid-morning craving attack, start your day off with oats. Oats are a very good source of wholesome fiber and contain no sugar at all so they will keep your blood sugar levels on a nice even keel. Mix in a little cinnamon for further blood sugar control support and to reduce belly fat and you’ve got a perfect way to start your day. Jeannie here- great idea for cereal lovers, just be sure to sweeten with Monk fruit or Stevia, not sugar. Our favorite stevia product is SweetLeaf, but their ingredients must be checked too, since some are not pure.

#6 Berries

Blackberries and raspberries provide a great way to settle down sugar cravings. What’s more, their high fiber content keeps you feeling full while the antioxidants and vitamins improve your health. Jeannie here- I haven’t done a ‘berry study’, but I often have strawberries and blueberries are a very healthy choice, too.

#7 Wild Salmon

Last but not least, don’t forget about salmon. Another food that’s jam packed with protein and healthy omega fatty acids and that will help squash those cravings and keep your blood sugar balance in check. Eat this in the evening with some wholesome vegetables and you can kiss your cravings goodbye for the night. Jeannie here- Yeah, and have your favorite healthy chocolate for desert!! Mmmmm, good- and you won’t be hungry after!

That’s 7 foods right there, but don’t forget about veggies and beans. Both are packed with nutrition and fiber to keep you full and satisfied. Jeannie here- Eating more of these foods during your day will help eliminate cravings, most especially foods high in fat. It is now a proven fact that good fats will not make anyone fat. The problem is foods high in carbs. I’ve now had 3 doctors tell me to forget calories and just count carbs– Guess what! I’ve discovered this does indeed work, and very well, too!

Hope you enjoyed these tips!

About talknshare

My study of how to achieve and keep good health began when I was 18 and has been my lifelong passion. I have learned much over the years and when my T.O.P.S. group dissolved, I created Talk 'N Share. Life happened and I have not done anything with it until now. Since the beginning of this year I have learned many important things and wish to share with others, who like myself, may find it nearly impossible to lose those last few pounds and maintain the loss already achieved.
